Vimal Shah is the Chief Executive Officer of Bidco Group, a leading manufacturer, marketer and distributor of edible oils, fats and hygienic products. Vimal has transformed Bidco into East Africa’s Most Respected Manufacturing Company. Bidco already has manufacturing operations in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania and distributes its products to another 16 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa.


In recognition of Vimal Shah’s exceptional effort and contribution to global economic development, His Excellency President Mwai Kibaki of Kenya rewarded him with the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) Award in 2004. He is a much sought after speaker on various fields and has given talks at various places including the prestigious Harvard Business School. As a result Harvard Business School carried out a case study on Bidco Group with an objective of creating a success model for other enterprises to follow.


Mr Shah is regarded as one of East Africa’s most distinguished business leaders. Among his outstanding achievements include:  Rated 3rd East Africa Business Leader of the Future and 5th Most Respected Chief Executive Officer in East Africa in 2002 and the coveted C.E.O of the Year 2008.


Recognizing the role of businesses in the fight against HIV/AIDS, Vimal has initiated a model HIV/AIDS workplace program at Bidco, in partnership with the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria (GBC). Bidco through Mr. Vimal is spearheading the implementation UN Global Compact principles in Africa.


Mr. Shah is a Governor and a Director of Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) as well Chairman, Trade and Investment Committee –East African Business Council (EABC). He is also a Board Director of both United States International University of Kenya (USIU) and Kenya Polytechnic University College. He also sits in the Presidential Investment Committee - Uganda.


Mr. Shah serves in the states’ National Economic and Social Council and is the current Chairman of Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM)

Mr. Shah was born and brought up in Nyeri before his family relocated to Nairobi where he attended High ridge primary school before joining Jamhuri High School. Later he enrolled at USIU and did a degree course in BSC (Business Administration in the finance and management option)



Vimal is married and has a ten year old son.
